Ryan Everson, Fine Arts. Portland Oregon. EversonArt@gmail.com

About The Artist
Multimedia artist Ryan Everson exposes the sentimentality often associated with an idealized natural world. Within a contemporary American culture awash in hyper connectivity, a contrasting vision of an isolated and mysterious wilderness gains allure. Touched with brooding humor and theatricality, Everson’s sculpture and related photographs examine this relationship between fabricated melodrama and longing for genuine experience. Amidst placid environments staged with dated, aphoristic signage and weathered structures, nostalgic outdoor fantasies emerge. Both creating and breaking through their own illusions, these remote scenes simultaneously engage and expose familiar visual and linguistic symbols employed to stir up a deeply artificial emotion – the yearning for something that never existed in the first place.
Ryan Everson received a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Fine Art in Sculpture from the University of Oregon in 2009 and 2010 and a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2012. His work has recently been featured in print in publications such as the Denver Post and Lodown Magazine and in a number of online outlets including Beautiful Decay and Things Worth Describing. He has exhibited both within Portland, Colorado and internationally in such places as Siena, Italy and Jinan, China.
